Security Training →Under Texas law, certain applicants are exempt from the live-fire range demonstration and only need to complete our online classroom training.
Active duty service members, members of the reserves/auxiliary, or honorably discharged veterans (discharged within the last 10 years) are exempt if they completed handgun training or range qualification during their service within the last 10 years.
Active Texas Peace Officers (licensed under TCOLE), county jailers who have completed firearms training as part of their employment, and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) correctional officers are exempt from the range test.
Note: All exempt applicants are still required by Texas law to complete the 4-hour online classroom training and pass the written exam. Our online course provides the official certificate you need to submit with your exemption paperwork.
